In need of a fresh bullpen arm, the Giants announced they are calling up pitching prospect Keaton Winn on Monday morning. Winn, who did not make his scheduled starting pitching appearance with Triple-A Sacramento over the weekend, has yet to make his major league debut. Reliever Tristan Beck was sent down in a corresponding move.

Winn has been excellent with the Triple-A club as of late, allowing one earned run in his last 12 innings. Winn –a fifth-round pick by the Giants in 2018 –was most recently listed as the No. 14 prospect in the organization by MLB.com.

Winn grew up in Southeast Iowa, making an easy trip to St. Louis for the right-hander’s family and friends.

Though he has been a starter in the minors, Winn is being called up to support a bullpen that has a few arms in need of rest.

Winn pairs a mid-to-high 90s fastball with a splitter that has led to a strikeout per nine innings rate of 11.1 at Triple-A this season. Winn’s challenge will be keeping runners off the base paths. In 41.1 innings in Sacramento, he’s given up 47 hits and walked 21.
