Stephen Curry’s Game 7 performance vs. the Sacramento Kings was one of the best of his storied career. But was it the best?

Longtime Warriors writer Marcus Thompson was posed that question on Tuesday by Papa & Lund on KNBR. More specifically, he was asked whether or not he thought that the 50-point Game 7, the only 50 point Game 7 in NBA history, eclipsed Steph’s 43 points vs. Boston in Game 4 of the NBA Finals with the Dubs down 2-1.

Thompson doesn’t think it’s close.

“Game 4 in Boston, and I don’t think it’s that close,” Marcus told Papa & Lund. “One is to get out of the first round, the other is for an NBA championship. That’s the thing, they were down 2-1 in the series. And also remember he got hurt at the end of Game 3. We didn’t even know if he was gonna play. He limped off the court and then afterwards, out of defiance, cause he hates being injured. You just don’t know what you’re getting. They looked overwhelmed in Game 3. Remember, Draymond wasn’t good. It just felt like that was it. It felt like it could be over, and they carried them to victory, cause Klay didn’t shoot it that well that game either.

“It was a very similar circumstance to where it looks bleak, and then Steph does the Steph thing. That one was in Boston, on the road. Sacramento is great, but it’s not Boston. Also it was in the Finals and he hadn’t had a Finals MVP yet. To me that was bigger.”

Thompson believes that the performance vs. the Kings was more reminiscent of a game from 2016.

“I compare this more along the lines of Portland when he came off the bench and dropped 40 and had 17 in overtime,” Thompson said. “This feels more like that. The ‘I’m back’ game. This feels more like that level. Yo, it’s an incredible moment, but you recognize it’s not the Finals. But it’s still like this was crazy to watch.”
