For the first time since they selected Dre Greenlaw, the San Francisco have drafted a linebacker.
With the penultimate selection of the sixth round and at No. 216 overall, the 49ers took TCU linebacker Dee Winters.
While he’s undersized, Winters is a rapid linebacker:
He had a ton of production in college, racking up 79 tackles, 14.5 of which were for a loss, along with 7.5 sacks and a pick-six in his senior season.
Here’s what some of that looks like:
Against Michigan, in the national semifinal, he was outstanding. He had seven tackles, three for a loss, a pass breakup and a 29-yard pick-six. With Azeez Al-Shaair departing for the Houston Texans, Winters could have a chance to compete for a rotational, or at least special teams role.
