The Giants acquired a new face and called one up on Wednesday.
With their outfield depth dwindling due to injury, San Francisco signed Cal Stevenson from the Oakland A’s for cash considerations, the team announced. Stevenson was a Bay Area high school star at Kennedy-Fremont, who played in just 23 games with the A’s big league club last season.
Stevenson, 26, has great numbers in Triple-A (.289/.397/.414) and the Giants will try to capitalize on that upside from the former 10th round pick.
On the pitching side, Tristan Beck got the call up with Alex Wood hitting the 15-day Injured List with a left hamstring strain. Beck, 26, has yet to make his major league debut, but the former Stanford pitcher has looked good in his three starts in Sacramento so far this year, after struggling last season with a 6.10 ERA in 19 starts.
