Sorry, the other Texas running back.
The Longhorns have one of the top prospects in this year’s draft in Bijan Robinson, an outrageously talented back. He, however, is projected to go early in the first round of this year’s draft.
Robinson ran for 1,580 yards and 18 TDs last season along with tallying 19 catches for 314 yards and a couple receiving TDs.
The 49ers, though, don’t pick until the third round.
According to NFL Network, they’re hosting Robinson’s backfield partner, Roschon Johnson, on a visit. He’s roughly projected as a third-round pick.
Johnson’s production, despite being behind one of the most elite backfield prospects in recent memory, was solid. He ran for at least 419 yards and 5 TDs in each of his four seasons at Texas. He also had decent production as a receiver, with 14 catches for 128 yards and a receiving TD in his senior season.
San Francisco has had horrible luck selecting running backs outside of the late rounds. Joe Williams, a fourth-round pick, never took a snap. Trey Sermon, a third-round pick was cut after a rookie season with two carries for 41 yards. Ty Davis-Price a third-round pick last year how has so far been the most successful, carried 34 times for 99 yards and had a lot of inactives last year.
If the 49ers were to make a similar selection this year, it would leave a lot of folks scratching their heads.
