Few teams love taking shots on former first-round talent like the San Francisco 49ers.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the 49ers are taking a look at the former 23rd overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, Laquon Treadwell.
Treadwell has struggled to find solid footing since being drafted by the Minnesota Vikings, playing for the Atlanta Falcons, Jacksonville Jaguars and last season, the Seattle Seahawks.
His best season came in Jacksonville in 2021 when he had 51 receptions for 434 yards and a touchdown. He aligned in the slot on 58 percent of his snaps with Seattle last season — catching just six passes for 42 yards — and could potentially offer a veteran slot option to compete with Jauan Jennings, similar to Trent Sherfield.
San Francisco has a history of taking low-risk opportunities on former first-round talent, and has excelled with that strategy, especially on the defensive line. Arden Key might be the best example, and his former Raiders D-line partner Clelin Ferrell followed suit this offseason, signing a one-year, $1.16 million deal.
