The Warriors reportedly made an addition to their roster on Wednesday, and kept two other players eligible in the process.
According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Warriors have signed G League guard Lester Quiñones to a 10-day contract. Doing so has also allowed them to keep playing both two-way players Ty Jerome and Anthony Lamb, due to a little known CBA rule as pointed out by Anthony Slater.
Because the Warriors have only had 14 players on their active roster, Lamb and Jerome were allowed to play a combined 90 games with the NBA team this season. Thus far Lamb as played in 47 and Jerome has played in 40, giving them only three combined remaining games to work with. However, by adding Quiñones as a temporary 15th player, the Warriors can play Lamb and Jerome 50 games each at the NBA level.
Obviously at some point, the Warriors will have to decide to sign either Lamb or Jerome to a full-time contract in order to keep playing them for the remainder of the season. As of now with Stephen Curry and Andrew Wiggins both out, Golden State wants more time to have both available and a few more games to decide who they want to make a full-time player for the postseason.
Quiñones, a 22-year-old combo guard, has been tearing it up in Santa Cruz, averaging 20.7 points, 7.1 rebounds and 5.0 assists in 21 games. He’s shooting 36 percent of his 3s on a high volume and was recently named G League Player of the Week.
