Even if you’re messing around, saying you want an opposing player to get injured is something you don’t do in sports media.
Yet that’s exactly what the hosts of 105.3 The Fan’s Dallas radio show “GBag Nation” did this week when discussing the upcoming playoff matchup vs. the 49ers, and specifically, Christian McCaffrey.
Host #1: “McCaffrey trade is paying dividends, he’s made it unfair.”
Host #2: “He’s healthy now, in Carolina he couldn’t stay healthy.”
Host #1: “We could use an injury, we really could.”
Host #2 : “Yeah, hamstring would be good.”
Yikes. There’s bulletin board material, and then there’s that.
Since joining the 49ers this season, McCaffrey is averaging well over 100 yards per game. It’s hard to imagine that won’t continue on Sunday after he gets wind of these comments.
Part of McCaffrey’s success is that he has indeed stayed healthy with SF after two consecutive seasons with the Panthers where he couldn’t stay on the field. McCaffrey dealt with shoulder, hamstring and ankle injuries during that time.
As a whole, the 49ers are relatively healthy heading into Sunday’s game, much to the chagrin of these hosts.
