Now that the 49ers have clinched a berth in the divisional round, there are three possible teams they could face next weekend. No matter who it is, they will be back at Levi’s Stadium.
The most likely scenario is a clash with Kirk Cousins and the Minnesota Vikings. The No. 3 seeded Vikings are hosting the No. 6 seeded New York Giants on Sunday. If the Vikings lose, however, the Giants would face the No. 1 seeded Eagles, and San Francisco would then face the winner of the No. 4 Buccaneers vs. the No. 5 Dallas Cowboys on Monday night.
Of the three possible foes, San Francisco has only played vs. Tampa Bay this season, and blew Tom Brady and co. out 35-7 in Brock Purdy’s first NFL start. Purdy was fantastic in the game, and threw a couple dimes while posting a 134 QB rating.
The 49ers did play against the Cowboys in the wild-card round last season, a game which they largely dominated but then got close at the end thanks to turnovers. San Francisco played the Vikings during the divisional round in 2019, and won easily at Levi’s Stadium, 27-10.
Saturday’s game was a bit too close for comfort in the first half, but if San Francisco plays like they do in the second half when they outscored Seattle 24-7, whoever they face in the next round is in for a rude awakening.
