The Giants completed a deal.
After designating Gregory Santos for assignment earlier this week, the Giants are sending the right-handed pitcher to the Chicago White Sox. In exchange, the Giants will get right-handed pitching prospect Kade McClure.
Fansided’s Robert Murray was the first to report a deal.
San Francisco had DFA’d Santos to make room on the 40-man roster for left-handed starter Sean Manaea.
Santos, 23, made five relief appearances for the Giants. They’d added him to their 40-man roster before 2021 to protect him from becoming eligible in the Rule 5 draft.
A shoulder injury in 2019 and the lost COVID-19 season in 2020 disrupted Santos’ development. Santos flashed a high-90s fastball and a dangerous slider, but struggled with command. In the minors last year, Santos walked 5.1 batters per nine innings.
In his 5.2 MLB innings, Santos registered an 11.12 ERA.
McClure has both starting and relief experience in the minors. A sixth round pick in 2017, McClure has yet to make his MLB debut. He posted a 4.97 ERA in Triple-A last year.
