Golden State Warriors president of basketball operations Bob Myers’ contract is set to expire in June and there have been no recent negotiations for an extension, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Myers has been with the Warriors since 2011, has won four NBA titles and has been named NBA Executive of the Year twice during his tenure. There is still ample time to get a deal done before his current contract expires, yet waiting this long to do an extension for one of the best executives in the league is relatively rare.
Though the two sides have discussed a new deal in the past, the talks are currently on hiatus according to ESPN.
“My entire focus is on the season and the team,” Myers told ESPN on Saturday, declining to discuss his status further.
“We love Bob and hope he is here for a long time,” Golden State owner and CEO Joe Lacob told ESPN on Saturday.
Though uncommon, the most recent situation comparable to Myers is that of Toronto Raptors president Masai Ujiri, who reached a new deal with the team in the final weeks before his contract expired in 2021.
In addition to sorting out Myers, Lacob also has to figure out what the Warriors will do this offseason, when they face the prospect of a player payroll and luxury tax bill upwards of $500 million.
Meanwhiel, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr is currently under contract through the 2023-24 season.
