The stove is piping hot, but the Giants pulled this one out of the microwave.

San Francisco announced on Wednesday that they have acquired catcher / outfielder Blake Sabol from the Reds for cash considerations and a player to be named later. The move comes just after the Reds acquired Sabol from the Pirates in the Rule 5 Draft.

Though Sabol, 24, has yet to make his MLB debut, he’s hit well at every minor league level, most recently slashing .296/.426/.543 in 101 at-bats at Triple-A Indianapolis. Overall, the left-hander hit .284/.363.497 with 19 home runs and 75 RBI between Double-A and Triple-A last season, and has a .849 minor league career OPS.

Sabol has spent time playing catcher, first base and outfield, playing primarily behind the dish last season. It’s unclear what his future looks like in the squat as he recently converted to the position.

Sabol is a Southern California native who was originally drafted in the seventh round out of USC. Because Sabol was a Rule 5 pick, he’ll have to stay on the Giants’ active roster.
