That is the absolute last thing the 49ers want to see.
Early in the first quarter of the 49ers-Dolphins matchup, Jimmy Garoppolo was sacked on an unblocked pressure from Jerome Baker and Jaelan Phillips, the latter of whom beat Mike McGlinchey.
Garoppolo got up limping. You can see on the replay that while he’s being sacked, he tries to stay upright, but all his weight, and Jaelan Phillips’, is on Garoppolo’s right foot.
Garoppolo limped to the sideline and was evaluated by team doctors on the bench before heading into the blue medical tent.
A few minutes later, Garoppolo emerged from the tent and got onto the cart, which headed into the locker room.
The 49ers deemed him questionable to return with an ankle injury, and Garoppolo was replaced by Brock Purdy, who San Francisco selected with the final pick of the 2022 NFL Draft.
