When Draymond Green punched Jordan Poole, it sparked a barrage of questions.
Would the Warriors trade Green? If not now, what about later?
Before the incident, Green had been seeking a max contract. The Warriors were not interested, but signed both Poole and Andrew Wiggins to massive extensions.
That’s all left Green’s future in question. He has a roughly $27.5 million option for next season, which Adrian Wojnarowski has reported he’s like to take. But could the Warriors seek to maximize his value and trade him before then?
ESPN’s Zach Lowe doesn’t believe so. In a recent piece assessing Green’s status with the Warriors, Lowe reported the following:
“The Warriors have not engaged in any trade talks centered on Green, and don’t plan to as of now, sources said.”
That obviously has a caveat of immediacy. The Warriors have no plans to trade Green “as of now.”
Despite the incident, that’s not a major surprise. While Golden State has struggled in the early going, Green has not been a major part of the problem. Their starting lineup of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins, Kevon Looney and Green is the most efficient lineup in the NBA this season, per the league’s advanced stats.
While the Warriors could move him in the future, it doesn’t appear they’re looking in that direction right now.
