The Dodgers can’t keep doing this right? Right???
Apparently there’s a possibility that they can according to a recent report from MLB.com, that says upcoming $300 million-plus free agent Aaron Judge could be pursued by the Los Angeles Dodgers, who themselves had around a $300 million payroll last season.
According to sources, the Dodgers could become serious players in this offseason’s Aaron Judge sweepstakes, a move that would potentially result in a position change for Betts, a six-time All-Star outfielder.
In addition to the insanity of LA adding another star, Mark Feinsand’s report also speculates that the Dodgers are willing to move Betts, a former MVP, to second base to make room.
Adding Judge would be less crazy if the Dodgers were to let some of their free agents walk, including Trea Turner, Justin Turner, Clayton Kershaw, Craig Kimbrel and Joey Gallo to name a few, and open up more space on the payroll. Currently, the Dodgers have only approximately $160 million on the books for next season, and have spent money in previous years like their pockets have no end.
The Dodgers are also coming off an embarrassing exit from the 2022 playoffs after winning a franchise record 111 games. Los Angeles has won just one World Series despite winning the NL West in nine of the last 10 seasons, meaning there may be some desperation to go after another big fish this offseason.
