The 49ers’ newest weapon will reportedly play on Sunday.
Just three days after being acquired in a blockbuster trade with the Carolina Panthers, running back Christian McCaffrey “is expected to make his San Francisco 49ers debut Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs” according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The 49ers reportedly have installed a package of plays that will feature the two-time All-Pro, though it is unclear how many and if they will just be relegated to the red zone as was previously reported.
McCaffrey was in attendance for one practice on Friday but was barely able to participate after passing his physical. So far this season he’s played in 85% of the Panthers’ snaps. He is averaging over 100 yards per game rushing and receiving combined, while averaging 4.6 yards per carry.
It is likely that Jeff Wilson Jr. will enter the game as the 49ers starting running back as he has in previous weeks.
