Jordan Poole and the Warriors are finalizing a contract extension that would keep the young guard under club control through the 2026-27 season.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Poole is expected to ink a four-year, $140 million contract extension Saturday. The deadline for members of the 2019 draft class to sign an extension is Monday, Oct. 17.
The 28th overall pick from 2019 has blossomed into one of the more electric offensive guards in the game. He scored 18.5 points per game last year while also posting career-highs in rebounds and assists and performing well in the postseason. In GSW’s Finals win over Boston, Poole scored 13.2 points in 20.8 minutes per game.
Poole led the NBA in free throw percentage; Stephen Curry handed him the trophy celebrating that feat this week.
The extension is short of the maximum amount possible, but still more than the four years, $120 million Heat guard Tyler Herro signed last week.
Poole’s contract comes shortly after he was at the center of the Warriors’ latest controversy — of which head coach Steve Kerr deemed the greatest crisis of his tenure — when veteran Draymond Green punched him in the face during a practice. Poole and Green shared the court in Golden State’s final preseason game Friday and no lingering effects were obvious.
