It’s been a rough couple days for the Golden State Warriors.
On Thursday the team — Bob Myers, Steve Kerr and Stephen Curry — addressed for the first time the physical altercation between Draymond Green and Jordan Poole, one that led to Green being suspended for a day after punching Poole in the face during practice.
On Friday, video was leaked of the incident, which looked even worse than had been originally advertised. After what seems to be some verbal sparring, the video — released by TMZ — shows Green walk up to Poole and get in his face. Poole responds with a shove and Green retaliates with a violent right cross that connects with Poole’s face.
It looked like the type of strike that could have had serious health consequences for Poole, but luckily the guard was reportedly not injured by the strike.
Already trying to manage the situation in their locker room, the Warriors now have to manage the public outcry, with many now feeling that Green deserves a harsher punishment after seeing the video. The Warriors are also trying to figure out how the video got leaked in the first place, and are taking “every legal course of action” to discover what happened according to ESPN.
“Obviously they are not happy that that video got out of their practice facility, and they’re trying to figure out where it came from and how it got out,” Adrian Wojnarowski said on ESPN. “Whether it was someone internally or whether that was somebody…listen, there are people that sometimes have access to practice. So they are trying to figure out how that got out and obviously you would imagine if it is someone internally in that organization, there would be severe repercussions.
“It is not always easy to find the root of a leak like that. They may or may not be able to, but certainly that’s a priority for the Warriors now.”
Ironically, the Warriors probably aren’t happy about this story leaking either, considering it looks like they are more concerned about keeping things in house than they are about their out of control power forward.
