Celtics head coach Ime Udoka is “facing disciplinary action that is expected to include a significant suspension” for an improper intimate and consensual relationship with a female member of the team staff, according to multiple reports. The relationship was reportedly a breach of the team’s code of conduct.
Udoka’s job isn’t believed to be in jeopardy, but the Celtics are expected to come to a conclusion on the length of the suspension by Thursday. A full season suspension is apparently on the table according to Adrian Wojnarowski.
According to ESPN, Celtics assistant Joe Mazzulla, would likely be in serious consideration for an interim role.
Udoka took over the Celtics head coaching job last year replacing Brad Stevens, and helped lead Boston to the NBA Finals where they lost 4-2 to the Golden State Warriors. He was just the fifth coach in the past 25 years to reach the NBA Finals in his first season as a head coach.
