The 49ers have 28 players in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and have chance for 10 more to be honored this year.
The NFL announced it’s list of 129 players that are nominated for the 2023 class. Linebackers NaVorro Bowman, Patrick Willis, that list includes quarterback Jeff Garcia, running back Ricky Watters, wide receiver Anquan Boldin, defensive lineman Justin Smith, linebacker Takeo Spikes, and defensive backs Merton Hanks and Tim McDonald, and kicker Gary Anderson.
Bowman is one of nine candidates eligible for the first time. Bowman’s career was short, but while he was healthy, he was one of the best linebackers in football. Bowman was a first-time All-Pro in four of his first five seasons with the 49ers, including after the year he missed due to a torn ACL and MCL.
After 2015, however, Bowman tore his Achilles. He was never fully able to recover from the injury, and ended up retiring after the 2017 season.
Bowman’s linebacking partner, Patrick Willis, was a finalist last year.
