Teams released their 2022 Arizona Fall League rosters Friday, a reminder that the MLB season is winding down to a close.

The Giants’ team, the Scottsdale Scorpions, is comprised with additional prospects from the Angels, Braves, Orioles and Red Sox. Eight Scorpions come from San Francisco’s farm.

SF’s No. 3 prospect Luis Matos will be joined by 2022 second-round pick Carson Whisenhunt (No. 7), young starter Will Bednar (No. 13) and catcher Adrian Sugastey (No. 19). Right-handed pitchers Hunter Dula and Tyler Myrick, plus catcher Andy Thomas and first baseman Logan Wyatt will also compete in the AFL.

A strained quad disrupted Matos’ struggle of a season. The heralded outfielder hit .211 with a .619 OPS for the High-A Eugene Emeralds — a discouraging step back in his development.

Bednar, the Giants’ first round pick in 2021, made 12 starts in his first full professional season. He posted a 4.19 ERA.

Since Matos and Bednar, who battled a back issue, missed time due to injury, it makes sense for them to get extra reps in live-game situations.

Whisenhunt is the only member of the 2022 draft class to represent the Giants. His presence on the roster could represent an organizational belief in his talent and possibly a fast-track in development. The first-rounder made three starts in the Giants’ system — one in rookie ball in two with San Jose. He didn’t allow a run in any, striking out 14 and walking one in 7.2 total innings.

Thomas, Myrick and Dula finished the season as teammates with the Emeralds, while Sugastey and Wyatt played together in San Jose.

The six-team league begins its six-week season on Oct. 3.

Correction: An earlier version of this story said Carson Whisenhunt was San Francisco’s first round pick in 2022. He was picked in the second round.
