Carlos Rodon had a lot of success in Chicago. So much, he may want to head back.
The almost certain soon-to-be free agent has his eyes on the North Side this time according to NBC Sports Chicago’s David Kaplan.
“And guess who else is interested in the Cubs? Carlos Rodón. Yes. Loved pitching in Chicago. Knows that the Cubs are a team with some players coming out of the system, and they need a top-of-the-rotation arm,” Kaplan said on his YouTube show “reKap.”
Rodon spent the first seven years of his career with the Chicago White Sox, making an All-Star team in 2021 and finishing fifth in Cy Young award voting. Still, the White Sox elected not to retain Rodon, who signed with the Giants this offseason.
Now the Giants have a similar decision to make. Should they throw a $100+ million at Rodon after another excellent year or let him sign elsewhere. If they are looking to retain him, it sounds like might have a hard time prying him away from the city where he started his career and raised his family.
Rodon, 29, has had an incredible season with the Giants in 2022, posting a career best 2.27 FIP while also striking out a career best 11.8 per nine innings.
