In a not at all surprising turn of events, George Kittle will not play in the 49ers’ season opener.
The Pro Bowl tight end suffered a groin injury in practice on Monday, which was termed “not good” in a report by Aaron Wilson. Wilson reported that the injury would likely benefit from at least a week of rest.
Kittle did not practice in any of the 49ers’ following practices this past week and was deemed a rose-tinted “questionable” for the game.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle’s Eric Branch, Kittle isn’t expected to play Sunday.
This leaves the 49ers with a tight end group of Charlie Woerner, Ross Dwelley and Tyler Kroft. Troy Fumagalli, on the practice squad, was not flexed up for the game.
