They might be out of the playoff hunt, but there’s no quit in the 2022 Giants.
A Wilmer Flores two-run jack completed their weekend sweep of the Phillies on Sunday. It was quite the statement against a team that is currently in the third wild card spot by 2.5 games.
In many ways, Sunday’s win was a microcosm of the Giants’ disappointing 2022 season, in that it included a blown 3-0 lead and a dominant performance by starting pitcher Carlos Rodon. It also included Flores coming through down the stretch, as his Willie Mac Award campaign may have reached a tipping point.
The series really didn’t change much for the Giants’ playoff odds, which still sit at less than 1% according to FanGraphs. But it did provide a thrilling conclusion to a weekend series that saw Oracle Park filled with fans still wanting to see competitive baseball.
