The Juan Soto sweepstakes are underway.

With the August 2 trade deadline rapidly approaching and the Washington Nationals having failed to extend Soto, despite a reported 14-year, $440 million offer, he’s on the block.

According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, the Giants — and their NL West rival Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres — are among seven teams to make preliminary trade offers for Soto.

The haul for Soto, who is somehow still just 23 years old, is expected to be monumental.

Given the competition for Soto, it may be difficult for anyone to get away with just sending out prospects.

San Francisco entered this year with the 11th-best farm system in MLB, per MLB.com. It has the likes of Joey Bart, Marco Luciano and Kyle Harrison to offer, but if you’re the Nationals, wouldn’t you demand someone like Logan Webb? And if you’re the Giants, is it even worth it if you have to give up Webb?

These are the questions we’ll likely get some sort of resolution towards in the next couple of weeks, if Soto is indeed dealt.
