Joc Pederson doesn’t believe Giants have what it takes to trade for Juan Soto

Juan Soto is on the trading block and one would assume the Giants will at least try to put together a package to land him.

Joc Pederson doesn’t believe they’ll be able to.

“I don’t think we have enough players to go after Soto,” Pederson told the San Francisco Chronicle’s John Shea. “It’s going to take two farm systems to get him. Logan (Webb), Yaz (Mike Yastrzemski), LaMonte (Wade Jr.), Joey (Bart), the whole team.”

It’s an interesting comment, considering the Giants have a number of top 100 prospects, including Marco Luciano who is on the top 10 of some lists. One would think that a handful of the best players in their farm system plus a young talented ace like Webb would make for an intriguing offer.

Then again, it all depends on what other teams can offer. Baseball America doesn’t believe the Giants are in the top 10 of teams that can make the best offer.

Weather or not the Giants would actually want to give all that up remains to be seen, but Soto is arguably the best hitter in baseball and only 23 years old. He has a career slash line of .293/.427/.541 and finished second in MVP voting in 2021. Soto also led the Nationals to a World Series championship in 2019.
