Kevon Looney has generated some interest around the league after an exceptional performance in the 2022 NBA Playoffs.

According to veteran NBA reporter Marc Stein, both the Sacramento Kings and Charlotte Hornets are among the teams that have interest in the veteran big man.

Unsurprisingly, Warriors assistant Mike Brown, who has been hired as the Kings new head coach, would like to bring Looney along with him. It’s unclear how Charlotte’s interest will be affected now that other Warriors assistant coach Kenny Atkinson has backed out of taking the Hornets head coaching job.

Looney, 26, just concluded his seventh season with the Warriors and led the NBA by playing all 104 Golden State games this season. Looney had some monster performances in the postseason, including grabbing 22 rebounds in the closeout game vs. Memphis, 18 rebounds in the closeout game vs. Dallas, and a 21 point, 12 rebound performance in Game 2 vs. Dallas.

What Looney is likely to make on the open market is anybody’s guess. The big man was expected to garner a bunch of interest when he hit free agency three years ago, but ended up signing a three-year, $14.4 million to remain in Golden State.

It seems exceedingly likely that the Warriors would again like to retain Looney unless the price becomes exorbitant.
