Eight days after reportedly agreeing to become the next head coach of the Charlotte Hornets, Kenny Atkinson has changed his mind.
Atkinson, currently the Warriors’ assistant coach, will remain in the Bay according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Wojnarowski noted Mike D’Antoni and Terry Stotts were the other two finalists for the vacancy in Charlotte, but the Hornets will have to restart the hiring process.
The Hornets have been in the lottery for six consecutive seasons. Atkinson apparently made the decision to stay with the Warriors while the champagne from their fourth NBA title in the past eight seasons hasn’t yet dried. The championship parade is set for Monday, June 20 through San Francisco.
