The NBA has announced who will be officiating Wednesday’s Game 3 of the NBA Finals, and it’s bound to make some Warriors fans nervous.
Scott Foster, David Guthrie and Courtney Kirkland will be the crew for the first game of the series in Boston. Foster, has earned the nickname “The Extender” for his (fair or not) reputation for favoring teams that are losing in a series. With this series tied at 1-1, the NBA probably thought it was a good assignment for Foster, and one that would eliminate some complaining from both fanbases.
That’s already proving not to be true. For one, Foster officiated 14 Celtics games this season. Amazingly, the Celtics won every single one. On the other hand, Foster also has a reputation for favoring the road team in big playoff games. No matter what happens, it’s likely the losing fanbase will set their sights on Foster.
As is common in the NBA these days, officiating has been a major talking point so far in this series. The Celtics seemed irked by the fact that Draymond Green wasn’t tossed from Game 2 after receiving his first technical early in the game.
One would expect that Green’s leash will be shorter in Game 3. Green can only afford three more technical fouls this series before he is suspended for a game.
