The injury bug continues to bite.

Pitcher Alex Cobb was scratched from his planned start on Friday vs. the Marlins with back tightness. It’s now the second injury issue Cobb has had in his first season with the Giants, previously hitting the Injured List with a groin strain earlier in the year. John Brebbia will get the start in what is now a bullpen game.

The Giants also issued a number of injury updates for their various wounded on Friday, most notably Brandon Belt who has been out since May 18 with right knee inflammation. Belt is continuing his rehab and will “begin his running progression” on Friday, though no timetable for his return has been issued.

Belt has played in just 26 of the Giants’ 50 games this season, one year removed from missing the stretch run and postseason with a fractured left thumb. It’s the continuation of a frustrating stretch for Belt, who is just looking for consistent playing time after an incredible season at the plate in 2021.

Here are the other injury updates provided by the Giants:

LHP Matt Boyd (recovering from surgery – 60-day IL) is continuing to throw bullpen sessions.

RHP Anthony DeSclafani (right ankle inflammation – 60-day IL) is scheduled to throw a bullpen today in San Jose.

OF Steven Duggar (left oblique strain – 60-day IL) started a rehab assignment yesterday with Triple-A.

OF Austin Slater (left wrist inflammation – 10-day IL) is continuing all baseball activities.

OF Lamonte Wade Jr. (left knee inflammation – 10-day IL) is working on his running, hitting and throwing progression.
