Watch: Mike Yastrzemski launches clutch home run to lift Giants over Rockies

Mike Yastrzemski’s third home run of the season came just when the Giants needed it.

Against Rockies closer Daniel Bard in the ninth inning, Yastrzemski dug in. The Rockies had tied Monday’s game for the fourth time in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Then Yastrzemski sent a low-and-inside slider 420 feet from home into the right field seats. The solo home run gave San Francisco a one-run lead it wouldn’t relinquish, as Camilo Doval earned the save in SF’s 11th straight victory over the Rockies.

Until the ninth inning, Yastrzemski had one hit in his previous 13 at-bats. Ahead of him in the order, both Austin Slater and Wilmer Flores struck out against Bard.

Then Yastrzemski gave the first pitch he saw his best whack. The home run left his bat at 104.3 mph and would’ve left all 30 ballparks.

Yastrzemski finished Monday’s game 1-for-4 with a strikeout, but that one hit was the difference.
