The Tyler Beede experiment has officially failed in San Francisco.

A first-round pick in 2014, Beede never was able to put it together with the big league club, appearing in just 33 career games while posting a 5.39 ERA. The Giants designated Beede for assignment on May 5. On May 12, he was claimed by the Pittsburgh Pirates, officially ending his tenure with the Orange and Black.

Beede, 28, has always had electric stuff, but has struggled with command throughout his career. Beede got a long look in 2019, making 22 starts for the Giants, but threw too many hittable pitches, posting an ERA of 5.08 and a WHIP of 1.47.

A Vanderbilt product, Beede was ranked as the Giants’ top prospect in 2017.
