The Deebo Samuel saga is still alive and well. With the NFL Draft just hours away, we are still lacking any sort of clarity on whether Samuel will remain with the 49ers or be traded, as is his wish.
The New York Jets have been the obvious suitor for Samuel from the jump. They have a staff led by Robert Saleh and Mike LaFleur, and tried to make a major trade for Tyreek Hill before Hill chose Mike McDaniel’s Miami Dolphins.
According to Jets reporter Rich Cimini, a Jets trade for Deebo Samuel could absolutely be in the cards, but it would likely be dependent on who is there at the 10th overall pick, which would go to the 49ers in any trade. It would be a live, in-draft trade.
The Athletic’s Tim Kawakami said something similar on Wednesday night.
Kawakami suggested that a Samuel deal would have to be done on the clock and that he believes there is a very real chance that goes down.
Day 1 of the NFL Draft is slated to begin at 5 p.m. PT. Each team has 10 minutes to pick. Factoring in the usual delays, we should have some clarity on the Samuel situation by 7 p.m.
