A day before they take the field for the first time in 2022, the Giants Opening Day roster is officially set.
Here’s what the 28-man squad is going to look like to start the season:
The most newsworthy aspect is the absence of second baseman Tommy La Stella, who will begin the season on the Injured List as he continues to recover from Achilles surgery. He joins Evan Longoria (finger) and LaMonte Wade Jr. (knee) who will also start the season on the IL. Recent super utility signing Luke Williams gets La Stella’s spot for the time being.
The Giants have elected to start the season heavy on pitchers, with ten options out of the bullpen including long relief / sixth starter options in Tyler Beede and Sam Long. Mauricio Dubon and John Brebbia were two other question marks that made the cut.
