The 2022 NFL offseason is one we’ll remember for a long time.
The latest in a long-list of blockbuster trades reportedly took place on Wednesday morning, with the Miami Dolphins sending five draft picks — 2022 first-round pick (No. 29), a second-round pick (No. 50) and a fourth-round pick, as well as fourth and sixth-round picks in the 2023 draft — to Kansas City for the services of All-Pro receiver Tyreek Hill.
There are two 49ers connections here. The first is that Hill will no be playing for new Dolphins head coach and longtime Kyle Shanahan assistant Mike McDaniel. The second is that Miami used one of the picks — the 2022 first rounder — that San Francisco sent over to the Dolphins in the Trey Lance deal last year, to ink Hill.
McDaniel will now enter the 2022 season with quite a few offensive weapons to work with. Hill joins a receiving corps that also includes Jaylen Waddle, DeVante Parker and tight end Mike Geskicki. McDaniel also added running backs Chase Edmonds and Raheem Mostert.
Hill, 28, has been one of the best receivers in the NFL for more than half a decade. He’s made the Pro Bowl every season from 2016-2021, and has been named a first-team All-Pro three times. He had a career-high 111 catches last season and his 1,239 receiving yards marked the fourth time in five seasons he’s gone over 1,000.
