As most feared when he limped off the floor on Wednesday night and did not return, Stephen Curry will miss some time. Curry was injured with about four minutes left in the first half, when he and the Celtics’ Marcus Smart dove for a loose ball near midcourt.
Smart said he didn’t see Curry, and landed on Curry’s ankle. When Curry tried to jog it off, he knew something was wrong and quickly went into the locker room.
Steve Kerr called it a “dangerous play” and talked to Smart after the game, while both Juan Toscano-Anderson and Draymond Green assessed it differently, saying Smart was just hustling.
According to the Warriors, Curry sustained a sprained left foot ligament and will be re-assessed in two weeks.
There are roughly four weeks left in the season, which means that Curry has a chance to return before the season is over, but it will at best provided only a few games for him to ramp back up and get re-acquainted with Draymond Green, Klay Thompson and company.
This could well put the Warriors’ hopes of re-claiming the No. 2 seed in jeopardy, and dampens a season that was once so optimistic. That championship potential is still there, but there is an ever-diminishing amount of time for the Warriors to get their weapons on the court at the same time and find some cohesion.
