Joc Pederson is coming home.
The Palo Alto native — and former enemy with the Dodgers — is signing with the Giants according to Jon Morosi of MLB Network. The deal is reportedly for one-year and worth $6 million.
Pederson, 29, a left-handed outfielder, has been a part of World Series teams in back-to-back seasons with the Dodgers and Braves respectively. Pederson was drafted by the Dodgers in 2010, was ranked as the organization’s top prospect in 2013 and made his debut with Los Angeles in 2014. A year later, Pederson made his lone All-Star appearance.
The outfielder stuck around with LA until signing with the Cubs last offseason, before being traded midseason to the Braves. Between the two clubs, Pederson slashed .238/.310/.422 and hit 18 home runs in 137 combined games with the two clubs.
Pederson is known as a low-average guy who walks a lot and has serious power. He’s also known for his excellent performances in the postseason, earning him the nickname “Joctober.” Pederson is slashing .256/.332/.482 with 12 home runs in 79 postseason games.
Pederson has hit over 25 home runs in a season four times in his career, and is sometimes used in a platoon role due to his success against right handed pitching (.237/.341/.490). Pederson can play all three outfield positions, but is typically used in center. With Kris Bryant now out of the picture, Pederson joins an outfield mix that includes Darin Ruf, Mike Yastrzemski, LaMonte Wade Jr., Austin Slater and Steven Duggar.
Brandon Crawford is apparently stoked about the news.
