While the 49ers seek to resolve their seemingly unending relationship with Jimmy Garoppolo, another complicated quarterback situation continues to unfold in Houston.
Deshaun Watson, who was cleared of criminal charges — but likely awaits civil lawsuits — of sexual abuse, requested a trade from the Texans more than a year ago. Houston has acceded to that request but reportedly has a specific asking price of multiple first-round picks and players.
There are multiple NFC South teams in the Panthers, Saints and Falcons that are reportedly interested in Watson, though he retains a no-trade clause and can determine, for the most part, where he goes.
But some reports suggested on Monday that the 49ers could also be interested in Watson. The first was from Jordan Schultz.
The speed and veracity with which this report was refuted should not be understated:
But after the report was refuted, Jason Dumas of KRON4 Sports in the Bay Area reported the 49ers do have mutual interest in Watson.
It’s a weird time of year folks and Jimmy Garoppolo, somehow, is still on the roster.
