The relationship between Kyler Murray and the Cardinals is frayed according to Chris Mortensen of ESPN.

The issues are mutual. Murray feels he’s been scapegoated by the team, is frustrated with the organization and is embarrassed by the way the season ended in a listless 34-11 wild card loss to the Rams. The organization, meanwhile, feels that Murray is reportedly “self-centered, immature and someone who points fingers.”

The conversation about Murray’s displeasure with the organization started a couple of weeks ago when the quarterback eliminated all references to the Cardinals from his Instagram account.

It is almost certain that Murray will remain a Cardinal in the immediate future, but his long term prospects are not set in stone. Murray is about to enter the final year of his rookie contract, but Arizona has until May 2 to pick up his fifth-year option. Additionally, the Cardinals can begin negotiating a long-term deal with the 24-year-old if they so please.

Mortensen’s report suggests that the two sides are expected to iron out their issues and that head coach Kliff Kingsbury is “self-scouting where he can provide better alternatives to help Murray.”

Despite the Cardinals’ rough end to the season where they lost five of their final six games, Murray made his second-straight Pro Bowl in 2021.
