The San Antonio Spurs are expected to buy out Goran Dragić, making the 35-year-old guard one of the top available free agents, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
The Warriors, according to Wojnarowski, will be one of many teams “in aggressive pursuit” of Dragić.
San Antonio acquired the veteran guard in a deadline deal that netted Toronto a protected first round pick. Dragić played just five games for the Raptors before requesting a trade and agreeing with the organization to train away from the team in South Florida.
The Warriors, Lakers, Heat, Bucks, Clippers, Nets and Bulls are named as potential suitors.
During Miami’s run to the 2020 NBA Finals, Dragić averaged 19 points per game before a plantar fasciitis injury sidelined him.
With Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Jordan Poole, Golden State has ample guard talent. But another capable veteran could be valuable as injury insurance.
Golden State stayed put at the trade deadline, but could still add players on the buyout market. Doing so would require releasing a player currently on the roster and dipping even further into the luxury tax.
The Warriors, particularly without Draymond Green (back) and James Wiseman (knee) have more of a need in the frontcourt than the backcourt. But adding a player of Dragić’s caliber, and one with a strong postseason track record, could interest the organization.
