The Giants signed Cody Carroll to a minor league contract on Wednesday, according to the team’s official transaction log.
Carroll, 29, was initially drafted in the 22nd round of the 2015 amateur draft by the Yankees. New York sent him to Baltimore as part of the Zack Britton trade in 2018. At the time, Carroll was New York’s 15th-best prospect.
The 6-foot-5, 230-pound reliever underwent back surgery in 2019. He’s pitched 18 MLB innings, all with Baltimore, racking up a 13.74 ERA.
In 2021, Carroll made 32 appearances across several levels of the minor leagues in both the Orioles and Marlins farm systems. He recorded a 4.46 ERA, striking out 44 hitters while walking 14.
Carroll’s fastball tends to tick between 94 and 96 mph but can top out at 98, according to Giants Prospects.
Carroll is the fifth player San Francisco has signed to a minor league deal in February. They’re all right-handed pitchers, with Jorge Guzman being likely the most promising prospect.
