Pablo Sandoval still has some baseball left in him.

Sandoval, 35, signed a contract with Acereros de Monclova of the Mexican Baseball League, the team announced earlier this week. Sandoval won three World Series titles with the Giants and most recently played for the 2021 champs Atlanta Braves.

“Panda” earned 2012 World Series MVP honors by going 8-for-16 in San Francisco’s sweep over the Tigers 10 years ago. That 2012 group is set to be honored with a ceremonial reunion at Oracle Park on Aug. 13.

Sandoval spent the first seven seasons of his MLB career with the Giants, earning two All-Star selections. He received National League MVP votes in 2009 and 2011, finishing seventh in the former year. After playing for the Boston Red Sox, he returned to the Bay for four more seasons, between 2017 and 2020.

The switch-hitting infielder appeared in 69 games for the Braves in 2021. He hit just .178 overall, but slugged three pinch-hit home runs in his first eight Atlanta at-bats. After the season, Sandoval posted a .846 OPS in the Venezuelan Winter League.

The Monclova Steelers play in Northeast Mexico. The closest major U.S. city to their stadium is San Antonio. He’ll be south of the border, but Sandoval isn’t done doing his thing on the diamond.
