Richard Sherman has never been known to hold back on his opinions. The former 49ers and Seahawks corner hosts the Richard Sherman Podcast and had on former Seahawks edge rusher Cliff Avril on Friday.

They talked all things NFL, but dove deep into Seattle’s situation.

Sherman said that he expects the Seahawks will not re-sign linebacker Bobby Wagner, and if that happens, they’ll be in rebuild mode, whether or not Russell Wilson sticks around.

He said Seattle fans are spoiled from the Legion of Boom era, and that it’s absurd to call for Pete Carroll to be fired after one losing season. He made a similar point about the calls for Kyle Shanahan to be on the hot seat by some 49ers fans when the team was 3-5 this season, saying all 31 other teams would be interested in his services if he was fired.

But it was the Seahawks fans that he took clearer aim at.

“Seattle fans are going to hate to hear this, because its just they hate accountability these days… they’re probably going to get rid of Bobby [Wagner],” Sherman said. “These fans had never won anything before we got there. They went to the Super Bowl in ‘06 and they were happy to be there. And that was their biggest claim. Then we get there, we win a Super Bowl, we spoil them with historic defense, and then all of a sudden that’s their expectation…

“No, it should not be. You should lower your expectation substantially.”

Sherman also said the Seahawks need to find their identity and get back to, as Carroll has long hoped to re-establish, running the ball effectively.

He’s also not a major fan of Wilson’s cooking.

“You have not been anywhere close to a Super Bowl letting Russ cook,” Sherman said. “You will not be anywhere close to a Super Bowl letting him throw 30-40 times a game, because not only are you stopping the clock, your defense, your time of possession, your propensity to turn the ball over is going to increase.”
