As the 49ers and Rams inch ever closer towards a third matchup of the season, the question remains: Will Trent Williams play? Williams missed the Week 18 comeback win in overtime with an elbow injury, but played against both the Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers.
This time, it’s an ankle injury sustained against Green Bay which has kept Williams out of practice every day this week.
But this is the NFC Championship game, and Kyle Shanahan said earlier in the week that both he and Williams “believed” Williams would play.
On Friday, Shanahan said Williams and Jeff Wilson Jr. — both of whom have ankle sprains — will be questionable for Sunday’s game. He declined to clarify whether it was a high or low ankle sprain, but said Williams, just as he was in Week 18, is “adamant” that he’s going to play.
For the Rams, there are a few players in question.
Per The Athletic’s Jourdan Rodrigue, offensive tackle Joe Noteboom (pectoral) is doubtful, with receiver Van Jefferson (knee) and safety Taylor Rapp (concussion protocol) both questionable.
