Klay Thompson scratched from lineup before Sunday Jazz game

Klay Thompson will miss the Warriors’ game against the Utah Jazz on Sunday night due to left knee soreness, GSW coach said pregame.

It’s the same knee Thompson had surgically repaired for a torn ACL in 2019. Thompson has played in six games since returning from that knee injury and the subsequent torn Achilles that kept him away from basketball for 941 days.

“Nothing too concerning,” Kerr said of the late scratch. “Just part of the cautiousness.”

Thompson is averaging 14.7 points per game this season while playing on a strict 20-minute restriction. While in the lineup, he’s been particularly aggressive seeking his own shot, particularly off the dribble.

Thompson participated in Sunday’s pregame walk-through, but Kerr said after consulting director of sports medicine Rick Celebrini, it would be wise to be cautious.

Without Thompson, the Warriors are starting Stephen Curry, Jordan Poole, Andrew Wiggins, Otto Porter Jr. and Kevon Looney. Jazz star Donovan Mitchell (concussion protocol) will also miss Sunday’s contest.
