After the Dallas Cowboys lost to the 49ers, 23-17, in a sloppy playoff performance in which they committed 14 penalties for 89 yards — including a bizarre delay of game after a successful fake punt — and then failed to get the final snap of the game off, they took aim at the referees.

Or rather, the Cowboys fans took aim at the referees, throwing trash at them and hitting their own players in the process.

After that game, quarterback Dak Prescott was told about the situation and initially launched into a diatribe about how that behavior was unacceptable. Then he found out the trash was being aimed at the fans, and lauded their behavior, saying, “credit to them.”

On Tuesday, Prescott issued an apology on Twitter.

Prescott’s apology comes after NBA officials — not the NFL’s — criticized his comments.

“The NBRA condemns the comments by Dak Prescott condoning violence against game officials,” the NBRA said on Twitter. “As an NFL leader, he should know better. We encourage the NFL to take action to discourage this deplorable behavior in the future.”
