Sunday provides an opportunity for some recompense for the 49ers. They find themselves facing the Falcons at home for the second time in two years, with Atlanta playing spoiler back in 2019 with a walk-off Julio Jones touchdown.
A 49ers win on Sunday is far more consequential this time around, with multiple models suggesting that a win would make them 80-plus percent likely to make the playoffs. A loss would drop them below 50 percent, with some of those models suggesting they’d have around a 1-in-3 chance, as covered here.
San Francisco will be thin at linebacker again, with Azeez Al-Shaair, who was listed as doubtful with an elbow injury that Kyle Shanahan said had swelling in it, ruled out for Sunday’s matchup. Dre Greenlaw is still out as well, and Elijah Mitchell will stay sidelined with a knee injury that threatens to keep him out on Thursday as well.
Below is the full inactives list:
- Elijah Mitchell (concussion, knee)
- Azeez Al-Shaair (elbow)
- Dre Greenlaw (groin)
- Maurcie Hurst (calf)
- Colton McKivitz
Atlanta, meanwhile, won’t provide an opportunity for a Josh Rosen revenge game. He’s among five players ruled out for the Falcons:
- QB Josh Rosen
- DL Josh Cominsky
- OL Josh Andrews
- OLB Marlon Davidson
- DL Jonathan Bullard
Sunday’s game is scheduled to kick off at 1:05 p.m.
