The Jay Jackson era is over in San Francisco.
The right-handed reliever is taking his talents to Atlanta thanks to a trade on Monday, joining a Braves team that was one of the few in the National League to fare better than the Giants in 2021.
Jackson was designated for assignment last week as the Giants made room on the 40-man roster for prospects they needed to protect from the Rule 5 Draft. It was another sign that Jackson might have a hard time cracking the Giants’ bullpen, just a month after not making the postseason roster.
In return, San Francisco gets cash and a player to be named later.
Jackson, 34, and his nasty slider were quite impressive in 23 appearances for the Giants, posting a 3.74 ERA, 1.24 WHIP while striking out 11.6 batters per nine innings.
