Frank Gore to box ex-NBA player Deron Williams

Frank Gore hasn’t been able to get back on the field this season, so he’s decided to take his talents into the ring.

The 49ers’ all-time leading rusher is scheduled to fight former NBA star point guard Deron Williams in a pay-per-view fight on Saturday, December 18 in Tampa, Fla. The fight will be the undercard of Jake Paul and Tommy Fury’s fight that evening.

Gore has previously mentioned that he’s gotten into boxing in recent years as a means of training.

“I just fell in love with how hard [boxing] is,” Gore said in September. “I felt like, ‘Man, I couldn’t fight.’ And I always like a challenge. So I kept doing it and doing it and I saw myself getting better and better.”

Gore, 38, hasn’t played football in 2021 after spending the 2020 season with the New York Jets. He played 16 years in the NFL, but has made it clear that he’s still looking for another football opportunity after rushing for 653 yards last year.

Williams, 37, hasn’t played in the NBA since 2017, but was a three-time All-Star during his prime in the early 2010s. According to their most recent official measurements, Williams stands at 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds, while Gore is only 5-foot-9 but has a weight advantage at 212 pounds.
