The last time Giants fans saw Logan Webb, he was illustrating one of the most memorable regular season performances in recent memory. Now Webb will get the ball to start Game 1 of the NLDS.

Webb, 24, emerged as San Francisco’s ace this year with a historic run of quality starts, tossing nine straight from July 27 to Sept. 7. The Giants are 22-5 in games he’s started since May 11.

Both Webb and Kevin Gausman, who will start Game 2, are formidable options, manager Gabe Kapler said. A key factor was how well Gausman recently pitched — a seven-inning, one-run start in Petco Park — on six days rest. He’ll have the same amount of time between starts for Game 2.

Both will likely be available for a potential do-or-die Game 5, Kapler said.

Kapler also said he is not sure who would start Games 3 and 4 on the road, but that the decision will be partially dictated by who the opponent is, the winner of Wednesday’s Dodgers vs. Cardinals Wild Card Game.

The Giants didn’t lose a single game that Webb started at Oracle Park in 2021. The breakout star posted a 3.03 ERA in 27 appearances (26 starts) this season, including 158 strikeouts in 148 1/3 innings pitched. San Francisco won 18 of his last 20 starts.

Gausman was the Giants’ ace of the first half and an All-Star. Despite a dip at the beginning of the second half, Gausman was stellar throughout the year, posting a career-best 2.81 ERA in 33 starts and 227 strikeouts in 192 innings pitched.
